Personal study: The numbers on the left side are
verse numbers.
1 Bible scholar William Barclay notes that in the Roman
army a centurion commanded a 100 man century (company). Sixty
centuries composed a cohort (battalion) and ten cohorts made up a
legion (division) of 6000 men.
Centurions were selected for their courage and
loyalty. Note other "godly" centurions in Luke 7:1-10 and Matthew
27:54.
2 "God fearing" meant that he was embracing the Jewish
faith but not yet a Jewish convert.
In Acts 17:22-31, what does Paul say about people who
seek God?
According to Romans 1:19-20, what can be known about
God from nature?
3-6 Strange that the angel did not tell Cornelius the
Good News of Christ. Who is given that privilege?
7 Amazing! Cornelius obeys the angel. How respected
today is obedience to God’s Word?
9 Peter observed regular times of prayer. How important
is that in your Christian life?
How important is prayer in the life of your Church?
What does your Church typically pray for?
11-15 From the context of Peter’s hunger, we would think
that this vision was about food, but what was Peter’s interpretation in
vs. 28 and 34-35?
16 "Three times…" would indicate full confirmation of
the vision, but there would be 3 more confirmations to come. Identify
them in these verses:
27 and 33 Apparently, who had Cornelius invited? What
does that tell you about him?
What motivation is needed to invite others?
Note that Cornelius was a godly man, yet he did not
have the salvation of Jesus Christ.
34-43 Peter clearly and simply outlines 4 truths about
salvation. Identify them here:
-
How was salvation won for us?
-
Who is salvation for?
-
What must we do to receive salvation?
-
What blessing comes with salvation?
47-48 What told Peter that these people were ready for
baptism?
