Acts of the Apostles

Chapter 11

Personal study: The numbers on the left side are verse numbers.

1-3 What was the problem with Peter’s outreach to the Gentiles?

This opposition surfaces again in Acts 15

What opposition to outreach might we see in churches today?

4-14 Peter’s story is essentially the same as in Acts 10.

15-17 What helped to convince Peter that God was behind this move to the Gentiles?

18 Everyone is convinced, but it took divine intervention. Why did the thought of welcoming others take so much convincing?

How long was God’s plan to reach the Gentiles in effect? What can you learn from the following?

  • Genesis 17:4

  • Isaiah 2:2

  • Isaiah 42:6

  • Jeremiah 3:17

  • Ezekiel 39:21

19 Those scattered were Jewish Christians (see Acts 8:1-4) William Barclay notes that the early church could have become just another branch of Judaism, but what did they hold on to as their key point of faith?

20-21 What new outreach door was opening?

22 The church at Jerusalem (where the Apostles stayed) appears to be an authoritative voice within the church. How important is it that all church activity operate under some authority?

Where are there areas of freedom in our church today?

25-26 Find Antioch on a map. This became a launching pad for the Gentile mission. What was Antioch’s "claim to fame"?

27-30 What else did Agabus foretell in Acts 21:10?

What more can you learn about this famine and the collection in Romans 15:25-27, 2 Corinthians 9:1-5 and I Corinthians 16:1-4?
