Paul and Silas had embarked on a 2nd missionary
journey in 15:36-41. What happened to Barnabas? See Acts 15 notes
about the dispute over Mark and their "resolution".
Five years had passed since Paul first set foot in
Derbe & Lystra. In that time Timothy emerged as a young disciple of
Jesus. Briefly study some biographical information on Timothy from the
following:
-
Acts 16:1-2
-
I Tim 4:14
-
II Tim 1:5
-
II Tim 3:15
Also note Paul’s instruction to young Timothy in 1 &
2 Timothy. How important is it to train new generations of Church
servants?
Must all be trained at a seminary? How is your
church training servants locally?
Vs 3 Timothy was actually Jewish through his mother,
so Paul expected him to be circumcised (although this appears to
contradict what Paul taught in Ch 15.
6-10 Note the unusual but certain guidance of the Holy
Spirit. Through what avenues has God promised to speak to us?
For daily direction, ask, " What doors are God
opening and closing for me?"
10 Note the change to "we" here. Luke has joined them.
Paul wastes no time in traveling to Macedonia, home of Alexander the
Great. It would be the first missionary work in Europe.
14-15 What can you say about Lydia and her conversion?
Note that Lydia was wealthy, godly, influential and
charitable! What did she still need?
How can your home be a resource for Christian
mission?
16-24 The slave girl had the "spirit of pythos", the
psychic ability to tell the future. Pithios is the old name for
Delphi, famous for oracles. What kinds of fortune telling are going on
today?
25-40 Let’s say that you were unjustly accused,
arrested and beaten by the police and thrown into jail. What would be
your first reaction? Should Christians get preferential treatment?
30-31 Please memorize the answer to, "What must I do
to be saved?" Who, in all, were baptized? Note the promise in Acts
2:39
37-40 How might Paul’s final action affected the new
church at Philippi?
