Acts of the Apostles

Chapter 18

Personal study: The numbers on the left side are verse numbers.

1 Locate Corinth on a map. Merchant ships off-loaded at the isthmus of Corinth to avoid the treacherous sail around the coast of Achaia. Home of the Isthmian games (similar to Olympics), Corinth was also noted for its wickedness. Note the Paul’s list of wickedness gives in I Cor 6:9-11.

Aphrodite was its goddess, whose temple was on the Acropolis with its sacred prostitutes.

2 What insights do you gain from Paul’s meeting with Aquila & Priscilla?

3 Paul’s working trade served what purpose?….see II Corinthians 11:7-9

Also I Thess 2:9 and II Thess 3:8

In Acts 18, underline the various ways in which Paul presented the Gospel.

5-6 Not only had Paul taken abuse here but also note 13:45, 13:51, 14:5, 14:19, 16:22, 17:5-9, 17:13. We can now see why Paul needed encouragement in vs 9-10.

See Paul’s condition in I Cor 2:3. What good came from this?

9-10 Closely examine the Lord’s answer to Paul’s apparent discouragement.

  • Do not be afraid

  • Keep on speaking

  • I am with you

  • I have many people in this city (See Elijah in I Kings 19:14)

As you face your fears in serving the Lord, what can you learn from the following?

  • I Cor 10:13

  • II Cor 12:9-10

  • II Cor 4:17

When can your weakness become a blessing?

What can happen if you thank the Lord for your troubles and your weaknesses?

The Lord was indeed gathering people on his side at Corinth. Identify them.

12-17 The Lord also delivered Paul from accusation before Gallio. How?

23-28 Apollos had some great qualities. Identify them.

What did Aquila & Priscilla see was missing in Apollos?

Note how they "corrected" him.
