4 Compare 21:4 with 20:22. Is the Spirit giving mixed
signals? Not likely. What is your explanation for how these people
interpreted the Spirit differently?
7-9 (& 15-16) Staying at a friend’s house was normal
for ancient times. What blessing do we receive in this rather than
going to a hotel?
9 Women did have many functions in the Church, but we
read of only men in leadership roles. What is your church’s
understanding of this? What is your view?
Other prophetesses: Ex 15:20, Jud 4:4, 2Kgs 22:14,
Neh 6:14, Is 8:13 and Lk 2:36
Note that there is the gift of prophecy, but there
were also Prophets as called leaders of the early church. Compare 1
Corinthians 12:10 with Ephesians 4:11.
10-11 Agabus reappears (see ll:27-29). Note that he
reaffirms what the Spirit had already given Paul in 20:33, but what
further details are revealed?
12-14 Paul had the choice of staying free and on the
move or being taken to prison. Can you think of any advantage
imprisonment might be to Christ’s mission? Try Phil 1:12-14
17-21 Paul is greeted warmly, but what bad news
awaited him?
Note that Paul had made a fine distinction between
the Law, Jewish customs and Christian freedom, such as having
Timothy circumcised but not Titus. What can you learn from Galatians
2:1-5?
Think of at least 3 reasons why people interpret the
same events differently. Does this happen in your church?
22-24 What was the church leader’s response and their
reason why?
27-29 A new accusation. Were they correct?
30 How did "the whole city" become aroused? What
happens if you make a false judgment about someone….and then tell 50
people?
31-32 What stake did the Romans have in all this?
33-36 These proceedings look awfully similar to the
passion of Jesus.
37-40 A prelude to Paul’s 1st defense
speech in chapter 22.
