Acts of the Apostles

Chapter 22-26

Personal study: The numbers on the left side are verse numbers.

CHAPTER 22

1-21 Read Paul’s defense.

Are you prepared to follow 1 Peter 3:15?

You will probably not have to do this in a court of law, but most likely in the "court" of the opinions of other people, including your own family.

Try these questions for starters (similar to questions from "Heart to Heart", a course on evangelism by LCMS pastor Steve Wagner)

What essential needs had Jesus Christ met in your life?

How has Jesus Christ met those needs?

How important is it for you to be active in the life of the church?

22 What did the crowd NOT care to hear?

25-29 What "wild card" did Paul now play?

CHAPTER 23

Note that in every opportunity Paul does not fail to focus on what the real issue is for him. See 23:6

12-35 Similar to the trial of Jesus, the mob wants blood, not explanations.

How many Roman soldiers were detailed to guard Paul?

CHAPTER 24 - PAUL BEFORE FELIX IN CAESAREA

What was their accusations against Paul and how did he defend himself?

At what point did Felix cut him off? Had Paul touched a nerve in Felix?

CHAPTER 25 - PAUL BEFORE FESTUS, THE SUCCESSOR TO FELIX

Note how much time passed between Felix to Festus (Acts 24:27)

1-11 Paul had much more confidence in Roman justice than in Jewish.

12-27 Paul now speaks before a member of the Herodian family. What was the reason Festus gave for asking King Agrippa’s advise about Paul?

CHAPTER 26 - PAUL BEFORE AGRIPPA

Now defending himself before a Jewish king, how does Paul’s defense shift?

24 At what point does Festus interrupt?

28-29 The accused Paul has what great goal in mind?

32 Did they find Paul guilty? But now he had appealed to Caesar, and to Caesar he will go.
